BUILDING CAPACITY TO EDUCATE AND DEVELOP AWARENESS OF RISK MANAGEMENT AND CROP INSURANCE AMONG HAWAII’S UNDERSERVED PRODUCERS
This project is sponsored by the Western Extension Risk Management Education Center, USDA, and University of Hawaii-CTAHR
In recent years, Hawaii producers -- your clients -- have faced adverse weather conditions caused by hurricanes and storms, the eruption of Kilauea Volcano, and drought. However, even when disaster strikes, many farmers throughout Hawaii are unaware of their risks nor the availability of crop and disaster insurance. Most do not have adequate farm records, making them ineligible to apply for financial assistance. Further, most of us -- the Cooperative Extension agents working directly with Hawaii’s insurable crops such as papaya, macadamia nut, coffee, banana, nursery, and livestock, are newly hired and/or have never been trained to address issues related to risk management and crop insurance.
You are invited to participate in a series of “Train the Trainer” (T3) webinars designed to help address this situation. As a trained agent you will be better prepared to build producers' awareness and advise them about crop insurance and other risk management tools as well as the five areas of risk.
These T3 webinars will provide training to Cooperative Extension faculty as well as other agricultural professionals for increased awareness of crop insurance and other risk management tools as well as the five areas of risk. These webinars focus on building the capacity of educators to then be able to provide outreach to Hawaii's producers, including those who are under-served.
We welcome you to join us for the following (6) Train the Trainer webinars from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM:
